In this economy it's natural to wonder where all our money goes. But there is a hobby that helps you do just that, literally tracking where your money goes, especially dollar bills.

How Does the Where's George Website Work?

WheresGeorge.com is a website that tracks money that has been entered in by serial number. George is, of course, George Washington whose picture is on the one dollar bill.

But the man behind the website is Hank Eskin. He started the site in 1998 and as of August 27th, 2010 Where's George has seen 177,637,962 bills totaling $960,225,643. It costs nothing to participate. To track a bill, you enter the location (by zip code) and the serial number and series of any United States denomination. Once a bill is registered, the site reports the time between sightings, the distance traveled between locations, and any comments from the finders, called "user notes."
